Welcome Message
Dear researchers, advanced practitioners, industrial partners, stakeholders and interested guests,
Welcome to the website of the KINDI Center for Computing Research.
Cyber Security has always been a challenge over the years and it is not going to be different in the future. People often associate cyber security with computers, but it actually has a far broader application than just this. The first instance of a cyber-attack was in 1903, when Morse code messages were projected onto the auditorium’s screen! Effective Cybersecurity is not necessarily about protecting a network, as most hackers may not attempt to attack a network but instead may target a website or server. Cyber warfare has become an integral part of the modern tactics of wars and attacks between nations as cybersecurity transcend the geographical boundaries of a single country. Thus, international relations are needed to establish regulation in accordance with internal law, to share the latest information about threats and risks, and issues of infrastructure protection which are vital, to ensure the nations’ freedom of use, and to prevent digital piracy and digital espionage.
In Qatar, "The person would remain the subject of development plans, its focus and purpose”. Thus, KINDI aims at capitalizing the existing critical mass and building national capacities through excellence in the following:
- Promoting research, development, innovation & commercialization in cybersecurity
- Providing solutions to problems related to information security.
- Attracting talents to find innovative solutions and new technologies in cybersecurity.
- Creating a cyber-smart society, which is the first defense system of cybersecurity.
- Building national capacities for raising awareness for individuals and institutions.
- Supporting public and private sectors in the establishment and development of national cybersecurity centers.
- Harmonizing cybersecurity policies and laws/regulations.
- Achieving education and awareness through a series of courses and/or academic degrees to increase the ability to deal with information penetrations and their impacts.
The capacity building and training of national cadres in cybersecurity is a collective responsibility that requires collaboration of various state institutions and research centers specialized in Cyber Security. Qatar University is the national expertise house and through KINDI, it performs it duty in providing knowledge and solutions in the Cyber Security field. KINDI enjoys the support of partners from the local and international public and private sectors.
To support the above, KINDI signed partnership agreements with Thales, and MoUs with the Scientific Research and Technology Council of Tubitak, the Malaysian Cyber Security Development Center and the Université Bretagne Sud. KINDI runs the Cyber Security Weeks and Cyber Woman on annual basis to host speakers and delegates who discuss the main challenges of cyber security locally and internationally. Other activities include training, workshops and seminars that come in line with KINDI strategy and goals.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Noora Fetais
Director of KINDI Center for Computing Research
